The Dignity Index: A Tool for Evaluating Bias Online
Information literacy involves more than evaluating the accuracy of information—it also requires us to examine how ideas are communicated. The language we use can build trust, foster curiosity, and encourage meaningful engagement, or it can shut down dialogue and reinforce division. This session introduces the Dignity Index, an eight-level framework for evaluating and elevating dialogue. Participants will explore how the Index can be used to analyze communication in interviews, texts, media, and everyday interactions.
Learning Outcomes: By the end of this session, you will be able to: Describe the concept of dignity and its role in dialogue and learning. Use the Dignity Index to evaluate communication. Identify one specific way to elevate the level of dignity in your own communication or media consumption.
