Minimizing the impact of High Conflict in Your Media Consumption In-Person
High conflict is a concept presented by Amanda Ripley in the book, “High Conflict: Why We Get Trapped and How We Get Out.” While most interpersonal conflict, while unpleasant, can lead towards personal growth and increased empathy, high conflict is a self-perpetuating system that works against growth and flexible thinking.
Learning Outcomes: This presentation will introduce Ripley’s concept of high conflict and present strategies for identifying high conflict in media. Practices that tend to minimize the negative mental health impacts of high conflict will also be discussed, including mindfulness and grounding exercises.
